La Suivante draws readers into the unsettling world of Eversand through Birdie Baker, a heroine attempting to escape her past by entering service within the enigmatic Rosemore household. Yet from the very first pages, the novel radiates unease: hidden corridors, family secrets, shifting identities, and the constant sensation that something is deeply wrong beneath the surface. What makes the novel particularly addictive is its atmosphere. Every chapter feels wrapped in shadows and velvet — elegant yet threatening. Dixen balances mystery and emotional tension masterfully, allowing the reader to slowly unravel the truth alongside Birdie. The pacing is compelling, the world immersive, and the intrigue relentless. Once the story begins tightening its grip, it becomes nearly impossible to stop reading. A beautifully gothic beginning to a series filled with secrets, obsession, and haunting revelations.
